Maxed Out

The average American family has $9,000 of credit card debt. The financial industry thrives on people making the minimum monthly payments and paying fees. Those who are broke are its best customers.

“With coverage that spans from small American towns all the way to the White House, the film shows how the modern financial industry really works, explains the true definition of “preferred customer” and tells us why the poor are getting poorer while the rich keep getting richer. Hilarious, shocking and incisive, Maxed Out paints a picture of a national nightmare which is all too real for most of us.”

Maxed Out is a distressing documentary on the culture that is American debt and the lack of concern for so many who struggle even with the basics. The focus is on families who have lost everything because of debt. It’s no secret that Americans are not good at saving and this film does an excellent job in showing that at its core.

One of the biggest targets for credit card companies is college students. They don’t have a credit history, don’t have to have a job, yet credit card companies give them cards like candy. That can be the recipe for disaster, even suicide. If you have a chance to see this I highly recommend it.
