I just bought Sirius satellite radio yesterday. I was in Walmart and found a receiver for about $48! What a deal! The monthly cost is $12.95/month which is the same I’m paying for my TiVo service so I thought, not too bad, I’ll go for it. I’m not sure I’ll regret this purchase. And on top of that my dad has a subscription. If you add a second subscription to that account you only pay $6.99/month more. How can you go wrong?
I remember when I got into podacasting. I thought wow, you can get content, even music, on demand anytime on your iPod. I even said “Why would you get satellite radio?” Well, now I realized I’m wrong. Satellite is 24/7 and doesn’t require downloading to an iPod whever you get the chance to. The reasons I wanted Sirius? No not for the Howard Stern (dear Lord no). For NPR, BBC, instant weather and traffic (can’t do instant with an iPod), and old time radio programs. And, who can do without Radio Disney? As I become more of an on-demand person I am more aware that the world is as well. I’ve been reading about how TV spots are becoming useless with TiVo and other services. Many of these new technologies are ad free thanks to subscriptions. I really think everyone should get satellite radio. I feel more in touch with the world. There’s content one can’t easily find elsewhere in this country. Even having TiVo puts you more in touch. With on-demand, choice, and selection on your time, you have the chance to discover more and learn more.
